Getting publicity is what it's all about. Buzz, baby. We mean getting yourself found, known, followed. One of the best ways to do get your buzz is on radio and television.
Less is more
People listening to you want to be informed or entertained.
- Do not get too technical, this is media not a classroom.
- Do not relate statistics and percentages. The audience can't keep up. This is your area of expertise, not theirs. Always speak to an intelligent, but not as-well-informed-as-you-are audience.
- Keep the conversation lively. Have passion for your subject.
- Speak in everyday words. Communication is your goal. This is not the place to show how smart you are.
Web Addresses
Spell out Web addresses completely. Don't say, "information for you dot com" because the listener won't know if it's information4you, informationforu, or some other possibility. Spell out your Web address and say it in a way that leaves no doubt.
How to get started
Look for community television and local or Internet radio stations. Get on the phone and call. Arrive 30 minutes early dressed to look good on camera. If on radio, bring something to drink and don't expect a big beautiful studio. Don't expect to have a computer, Web connection, or anything else.
