Many people tell me they aren't allowed to use social networking tools because of regulations. Good thing the regulations cripple an entire industry, else those using social networking would put the others out of business.
Do your have a socially acceptable online presence that you can use? Sure you do. So le's get some mileage out of it and give you an advantage.
How?
Funny you should ask. The answer is called domain name forwarding.
If your name is Joe Schmo and you work for BigFictionalBusiness.com, you simply buy JoeSchmo.com, and forward it to your Web space at BigFictionalBusiness.com. Now when anyone goes to jowschmo.com, they see your Web space at BigFictionalBusiness.com. Is that cool or what?
See what you've done?
Your clients see your name and your domain name and go to your Web address. Should you ever leave BigFictionalBusiness.com, all you do is remove the pointer to the BigFictionalBusiness Web site and put your own Web site on JoeSchmo.com. All of those clients you've developed will still come to JoeSchmo.com, and to you.
So what about asking forgiveness? Should BigFictionalBusiness.com start to squeak that you are your site has your name on it. You say, "Sorry."
